While it may not seem as important as a resume, most people don’t realize that a badly filled out job application can be much more costly than a bad resume. A recruiter will see hundreds of application forms, so any that are filled in badly will stand out for all the wrong reasons. These tips should help you avoid problems like that and show you exactly how to fill out a job application the right way!

Read through the application before you begin filling it in, and follow any instructions to the letter. While most applications will ask for similar information, they will not all do it in the same way, so it’s a good idea to make sure you are following the guidance given. If you make a mistake here, the potential employer will likely think “This candidate doesn’t know how to fill out a job application correctly, why should I trust them with anything else?” And there go your hopes of getting an interview!

Do a practice run- Photocopy the form and have a practice run at filling it out. This will help you get an idea of how many words you can fit into the boxes etc, and will definitely improve the way the finished article reads.

Be consistent. One of the things that people often overlook when learning how to fill out a job application is the consistency of their data. Make sure the form is filled out with information that matches with your resume. If you “stretched” the dates on your resume because one of your jobs ended prematurely, you will need to make sure your application information covers exactly the same dates. A smart recruiter is well aware of such tricks, and finding you out to be dishonest at this early stage can only be a problem.

Check it. How to fill out a job application 101-Make sure there are no mistakes! Read through it once immediately after you finish it, and then if possible you should leave it a day or two and re-check it. It’s much easier to spot mistakes and other errors when the document is not fresh in your mind, and for this reason it’s a good idea to give yourself some “edit time” between filling it out and sending it away.

Never volunteer negative information. The object of filling out an application is to get yourself in for an interview, and giving out negative information will only hamper this goal. Try and give all your answers as positive a spin as possible, and leave the lengthy answers for the interview. There are many different schools of thought on how to fill out a job application, but one thing is for sure, it’s very hard to use the small space on an application form to explain away any negative information that you have volunteered.

As you’ve seen, the methods of how to fill out a job application can be every bit as tricky as writing a resume, so just make sure you stick to those guidelines and you should be a winner every time!

Not sure where to start with your career? Don’t know what you want to do?

The first steps to finding out what you want to do with your life can be difficult or even overwhelming so the best way to start is by learning more about yourself & what you want from your life & your career.

The best way to start learning more about yourself & what you want out of your personal & work life is to find some activities & tools to help you discover your inner dreams & ambitions. Whether you’re still in study or mid career, it’s best to approach any career moves in the same way.

Once you have learnt how to approach changes in your work & personal lives, you’ll be able to revisit the right steps at any time throughout your life. No career decision is ever permanent & you’ll always have a range of options as your career life changes. As your personal life changes, you may find that what you want from your career will change too.

The first challenge you should face is to ask yourself ‘Who am I?’

- What are you good at?
- What have you achieved already?
- What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
- What are you passionate about?

It may help to right this down on a piece of paper or start a career journal to really visualise your career plan right from the beginning.

A compelling career is ultimately what you want to achieve & as your career progresses, you will be able to decide whether you are heading in a desired direction or not.

Reviewing your interests:

Looking at the variations in types of work that interest you is important when planning or making changes to your career path. By taking your interests in account when choosing jobs & study, you minimise the chance of losing interest in your selected field. If you find an environment that suits your interests, your likely to be happier or even excited with what you are doing.

Reviewing your values:

Your personal values play a big part in how successful you will be in your career so it’s important to incorporate this into your careers decisions. Finding a career that fits your core values as a person & knowing that what you’re doing is important will help you feel satisfied in your work & narrow down your career options.

Reviewing your skills:

By working out what your skills are & matching them to different jobs, you will open up your career options & find avenues you may not have thought of before. Think of as many skills as possible & what levels of skills you have in each area, then try to think of ways you can use them at work or in other areas of your life.

Right now, it is difficult for most people in the country to find a new job or to change to another job. There aren’t enough jobs right now to support everyone who wants to have one. The journey to find a job is going to be very long and tough for most people. That is why job seekers need to do everything they can to get an advantage over other job candidates for a position. However, one of the things that can help a lot is to stay positive. Genuine enthusiasm shows everywhere in subtle ways, which can be very helpful to getting noticed in a positive way. With good Paying Jobs, it is even more critical to do everything to get the position since those jobs are so scarce.

In this economy, it is not unusual to get hundreds of job applicants for a single position. Economic times are actually that bad right now.á It is very important to do everything to get noticed by the hiring manager in a good way. It is not good to talk about how bad it is to be unemployed. Many job seekers have become depressed after a long job search. Instead, be positive and show confidence and energy. Play uplifting music in the car on the way to the interview if needed. That’s the way to get high Paying Jobs.

Another thing that is important in landing high Paying Jobs is to prepare properly so that the confidence and positive energy being displayed is genuine. If there is going to be a skills test or technical interview, the job candidate needs to prepare the night before or even more prior to going to the interview. It is not unusual to spend days reading study guides and books in order to prepare. Surprisingly, many people don’t put in the effort to properly prepare and refresh their memory prior to getting interviewed by a company. That is how a job candidate can gain a huge advantage over everyone else even in this difficult economy.

Yes, getting high Paying Jobs is difficult right now. But with both good preparation and positive thinking, it is very possible to get that dream job even in this difficult economy. That’s how many people have managed to gain employment even during these difficult times.

When advertising open positions through local newspapers or online websites, recruiters must understand that it is essential that the listings are well written. Poorly written listing can cause much confusion and can waste precious time when conducting future interviews. Listings that are unclear or that provide little detail can lead to inquiries by individuals that are unsavory or are clearly under qualified. On the other hand, descriptions that are too lengthy or that have too many pre-employment requirements can scare away potentially awesome recruits. Therefore, you can achieve the best results by following a few of these guidelines when constructing your next advertisement.

The first thing to keep in mind is that your job advertisement is going to appear alongside others that are perhaps very similar in nature. You must make sure that yours has a professional tone yet stands out among the rest. It is imperative that your job listing relay a positive, enthusiastic message to prospective employees. You want your ad to excite the recruit so that they are encouraged and are eager to apply. Creatively written listings pull in more candidates than standard boring ones do. Make sure to list any positive benefits or bonuses that are available to those who work for your company.

Another important step is to make sure that you list only the basic must-have skills when listing the requirements of the job. There is no need to add skills that are rarely used or those that can be quickly and easily taught during on-the- job training sessions. Listing too many requirements can scare away potentially perfect applicants. However, the opposite can happen if you skip over essential requirements needed for the position. When recruiters fail to list mandatory applicant requirements, they often end up with candidates that are not qualified for the job. This wastes not only your time but also the candidates. It is always best to keep the job requirements simple but accurate.

When publishing your advertisement, do not rely solely on the local newspapers. You can reach more potential candidates by posting your job on various internet sites, such as Monster, Yahoo’s HotJobs or Indeed. You can not only reach candidates that currently live in your market but also those that are willing or already planning to move to your area. College recruiting offices are also an excellent way to the get the word out about your company’s open positions. They have access to current students and recent graduates that may specialize in your company’s field of interest. Of course, do not forget your local unemployment office. Remember that most people who are registered there are legitimately looking for work, and many can make great future employees.

Whatever route you choose when listing your open job listings, make sure your message comes across clearly. Remember that this is a marketing tool that should attract highly-qualified individuals. It is your job to make sure that the message conveyed is one that represents your company as a place that anyone would love to work. With a little time and effort, you can have the perfect advertisement that leads you to the perfect candidate selection.
